Clothing stores in the Thai capital, Bangkok, are packed with fashion ranges in black as the nation grieves over the death of its king. It's the colour most people will be wearing for 30 days as part of the official one-year mourning period. Fashion designers are scrambling to rush out suitable new lines. But not everyone can afford to go out and buy black specially for the occasion. For the poorer members of society there's now this free service where clothing is dyed black. It's been launched by the government and volunteers and it's already been taken up by thousands. Stands like this with large cauldrons of black dye have been set up near the Grand Palace and other parts of the city. Those who lack the money or inclination to splash out on a new mourning wardrobe just hand over some old clothes for transformation into something more sombre and seemly for the occasion.
